Understanding Equity: PYP6 Meets Special Olympics #BISSGausel
Jo Horne

As part of their current 'Sharing the Planet' unit, PYP6 students have been exploring how disparities in the world shape people’s access to their human rights and how understanding these differences can deepen our appreciation of equity.

This week's visit from Ms Ward, our MYP Coordinator, couldn’t have been a more meaningful connection. With her passion for horses and her dedicated work supporting athletes in the Special Olympics through equestrian therapy, Ms Ward shared powerful real-world examples of what it looks like when communities create inclusive opportunities so that everyone can participate with dignity.

Her stories helped PYP6 students see how equity is different from equality and why equitable support is essential when people experience different barriers or needs. This is exactly the kind of authentic perspective that helps learners make sense of human rights in action.
