MYP4 and Stavanger Symphony Orchestra #BissGausel
Jo Horne

By 2050 the oceans will contain more plastic than fish. To draw attention to the plastic problem Stavanger Symphony Orchestra presented a concert inspired by waste plastic from the sea. Using rubbish they created a musical art form taking us into the sounds of the ocean with dolphins, whales, jelly-fish and clicking shrimps (created by popping bubble-wrap). Plastic bottles were swept around the stage. An opera singer in recycled plastic angel wings and another in a deep blue plastic dress sang out, taking us from this landscape through industrial building sites and onwards. The MYP 4 students will be analysing this music in future lessons. #thisisBISS #BissGausel

MYP5 D of E #BISSGausel
Jo Horne

MYP5 have begun their D of E (Duke of Edinburgh) International Bronze award journey - cooking pasta in the playground. Assembling the trangiers and organising themselves (with only a tiny bit of pasta spillage) was a great way to develop skills they will need as they plan their future expedition. #ThisisBISS #ThisisBISS

PYP6 Visit to Stavanger Museum #BissSentrum
Jo Horne

PYP6 visited the "Miracle of Life" exhibition at Stavanger Museum, which is connected to their current UOI (Unit of Inquiry) about Transitions. The exhibition explores pregnancy, birth, and midwifery, and offers fascinating insights into topics such as fertilization, fetal development, and the history of midwifery. The students also had the opportunity to learn about important issues relating to these topics while also engaging with interactive exhibits like a computer game called "Battle for the Egg" and a film about birth. They even experienced what it's like to be inside an enlarged model of a womb. #ThisisBISS #BissSentrum

Interviewing Leaders #BISSGausel
Jo Horne

During their first unit of the school year, PYP5 have been exploring the idea of leadership and what it means to them. Using the school community as a lens they invited members of the Senior Leadership Team to visit to ask them questions about leadership in the school, the characteristics of a good leader, the influence of leaders and the responsibilities of leaders.

Thought-provoking and insightful questions from these inquiring communicators in PYP5 really encouraged our leadership team to think about who influenced them as leaders and what makes a good leader. Well done PYP5 excellent questions and effective notetaking. #ThisisBISS #BissGausel
