We have been celebrating February as 'Love to Read' month with some super ideas and inspiration to encourage our children to appreciate the pleasure of books and of reading.
On Thursday 1 March 2018, all children in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) will be celebrating World Book Day by engaging in a range of fun reading and story writing activities.
For those of you who are not familiar with this wonderful initiative, this is the overall purpose:
'World Book Day is a celebration! It's a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it's a celebration of reading. In fact, it's the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.'
What to do:
- Help your child to select their favourite book or book character
- Help them to plan an outfit that captures the spirit of their choice (their favourite character, author or a colour that represents their book).
- A fancy outfit is not necessary, help them to be creative - it is the celebration of the fun of books rather than having the perfect costume! (there are some fabulous ideas on the website
- An optional donation of 10kr will be collected and donated to Book Aid International (details on the world book day website above)
We look forward to a day of celebrating the joy books bring to our lives!
