Physical and Health Education

Key Components of the Program

The MYP Physical and Health Education (PHE) curriculum focuses on developing students’ physical literacy, well-being, and understanding of health-related concepts. Through a balanced combination of physical activities, sports, and health education, students explore the connections between physical fitness, mental health, and overall well-being. The program promotes lifelong healthy habits and an appreciation for the benefits of an active lifestyle.

Goals of the Program in the Subject

The program aims to develop students’ motor skills, teamwork, and personal resilience while fostering an understanding of health, fitness, and nutrition. It encourages students to set personal goals, adopt healthy behaviours, and reflect on their own physical and mental well-being. By promoting inclusivity, respect, and a growth mindset, PHE helps students become confident individuals who value physical activity and make informed health choices.

Approach to Teaching the Subject

Physical and Health Education in the MYP is taught through an experiential, inquiry-based approach that emphasizes active participation, reflection, and personal growth. Lessons include a variety of physical activities, team and individual sports, fitness training, and discussions on health-related topics. Teachers encourage collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving while helping students apply their learning to real-life health and fitness scenarios. The program fosters a holistic view of well-being, integrating physical, emotional, and social health to prepare students for lifelong healthy living.
