Local Community and Society

At our preschool, we believe that children’s sense of identity and belonging is shaped through exploration, discovery, and meaningful experiences within the context of their community. We encourage children to explore their own cultures, heritage, and traditions, helping them recognise the unique backgrounds and perspectives that each child brings to the group. By celebrating these differences, children not only develop an appreciation for their own identity but also gain a deeper understanding of the diversity within their community.

As children engage with their peers and their surroundings, they begin to develop a powerful sense of belonging to diverse groups and communities. Whether it is their family, their preschool group, or the larger local community, they learn to appreciate the connections and relationships that bind them together. Through group activities, collaborative play, and shared experiences, children form relationships that help them understand the importance of working together, sharing, and supporting one another.

Our curriculum fosters an appreciation for both the natural and constructed environments, encouraging children to explore and respect the spaces they inhabit. By interacting with their surroundings, children develop a deeper understanding of the physical world, from their local area to the homes and buildings that make up their community. This helps them build a sense of responsibility for their environment and an appreciation for the roles these spaces play in their daily lives.

In addition to exploring their own culture and community, we also emphasise the importance of understanding the reciprocal rights and responsibilities that are necessary for active participation in society. Children are guided to recognize that being a part of a community involves not only enjoying its benefits but also contributing to its well-being. Through collaborative activities, children learn about kindness, fairness, and respect, and understand how their actions can impact those around them.

By fostering a sense of belonging, respect for diversity, and a clear understanding of their role in the community, children develop essential social skills that will serve them well as they continue to grow and engage with the world around them.
