Our History
The British School of Stavanger was founded in 1977 and over the years has developed into a truly international school.
The school was initially established to educate the children of the first North Sea oil workers in the area, but it quickly grew moving to its current premises in 1981. The school expanded and began to welcome students from many different countries. In 2004 we changed our name to the British International School of Stavanger to reflect the international strengths of our school community and curriculum.
In 2019 we became three schools - BISS Preschool, BISS Gausel and BISS Sentrum. Gausel and Sentrum are now friskole offering Primary and Secondary Education.
The schools maintain links with their British roots, but are continually developing an international ethos for our young global citizens.
We particularly value this international aspect. The experiences and friendships which they gain in their multi-national and multi-cultural classrooms are priceless.
