Whole Pre-School Activities
At BISS Pre-School we often have events and regular assemblies where the whole Pre-School can meet together. This helps our children understand they are part of something bigger than themselves - our Pre-School community. These events vary from monthly whole Pre-School circle times to international events such as United Nations Day.
In our Pre-School we feel it is important that we prepare children for everyday life. We do this by modelling and encouraging fundamental values in our early years program. These include:
- Democracy: We make decisions together, allowing children to know their views count. Children are given opportunities to develop in an environment where questions are valued.
- Rule of law: We support learning to distinguish right from wrong. We create rules and the codes of behaviour collaboratively with the children, this helps ensure that all children understand rules apply to everyone.
- Individual liberty: Children are encouraged to develop a positive sense of themselves. This allows children to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and increase their confidence in their own abilities through inquiry and independence.
- Mutual respect and tolerance: We treat others as we would want to be treated. Children are supported to have an appreciation of and respect for their own and other cultures.
