Our History

The British School of Stavanger was founded in 1977 and over the years has developed into a truly international school.

The school was initially established to educate the children of the first North Sea oil workers in the area, but it quickly grew, and moved to its current premises in 1981. The school began to welcome students from many different countries. In 2004 we changed our name to the British International School of Stavanger to reflect the international strengths of our school community and curriculum.

In 2019 we became three schools. BISS Preschool, BISS Gausel and BISS Sentrum. BISS Gausel and BISS Sentrum are friskole offering English speaking Primary and Secondary Education.

The schools maintain links with our British roots, but we are continually developing an international ethos for our young global citizens.

We particularly value this international aspect. The experiences and friendships which they gain in their multi-national and multi-cultural classrooms are priceless.
