All students receive two hours each week of physical education, as part of the curriculum. The school has a multi-purpose hall in the lower primary school and a well equiped gymnasium in the main school building, to facilitate these studies. The adjacent playing fields include three artificial grass pitches, a running track, a beach volleyball pitch and an outdoor basketball court. In addition, school makes good use of local sports facilities for activities such as indoor athletics and swimming. Swimming is compulsory for all students in the upper primary school, as a means of ensuring that every child learns to swim.
The school has invested in age appropriate outdoor play equipment in its playgrounds, especially designed to stretch our youngest students' physical skills whilst they play.
Outdoor education is a key feature of life at The British International School. We have made a conscious decision to make maximum use of the fabulous natural resource we have on our doorstep.
Whilst many students are enthusiastic about conventional sports, we also have the opportunity to extend provision to include a range of activities that students can pursue throughout their lives. Several outdoor education specialist teachers are employed to ensure that those resources and opportunities are promoted.
Outside school there are a number of excellent sports clubs which can be accessed by students interested in football, tag-rugby, cricket, tennis, handball, ice skating and swimming. Please see our community section for an additional list of providers. Please see our useful links page for details of local clubs.
