Norwegian

A thorough knowledge of Norwegian, both formal and informal, is necessary for students to communicate effectively throughout the curriculum. Norwegian will be taught as a language A for the bilingual students in school.

Students are taught and encouraged to use language as a vehicle for thought, creativity, reflection, learning and self-expression. They are encouraged to respond to a variety of texts both modern and classic, and to consider the role of literature both culturally and historically. They develop the skills involved in speaking, listening, reading, writing and viewing in a variety of contexts.

The study of Norwegian as a language A has a double role to play:

  • It provides the basic tool of communication by developing social contacts and encouraging self-expression
  • It provides the study of a broad variety of forms of expression through language by fulfilling cultural and intercultural roles, influencing the personal, moral and spiritual development of the student through literature and deepening the student’s understanding of the human nature and values.
