Pre School 2

Pre-school 2 is for children 3 - 4 years old (turning 4 during this school year). There are up to 16 children with a teacher and assistant in this class.

Parents can select a 3 or 5 morning programme where both classes follow the same themes.

Teaching is through topics which usually last over a 2 week period.

Children in Pre-school 2 are welcome to use the Childcare service.

At this level children are becoming more independent and more curious about the world around them.

Our Daily Routine

Free Choice

Mornings begin with a range of activities that children decide for themselves. These include activities such as puzzles, dressing up, cars, trains and playing in our wendy house. We vary our free choice of activities daily to give children a constant range of stimulating activities.

Circle Time

Circle time brings the children together to talk about the weather and calendar, Happy boy with bookthe topic of interest, tell news, have songs, rhymes and stories, and once a week, Show and Tell.

The Daily Activity

Each morning there is a special activity (which may be craft work, painting, printing, baking, planting, etc.) relating to the current topic.

We also have a programme of carefully selected worksheets designed to develop and extend pre-reading and pre-writing skills at the child's own rate.

Lunch Time

We all sit down together to eat our packed lunch. The children are encouraged to help tidy away before bathroom time, to get ready for eating. The school does not provide meals so a packed lunch must be brought from home.

Outdoor Play

Outdoor play is always popular and usually takes place later in the morning, after lunch time. We usually use one of our adventure playgrounds round the school or go for walks in the nearby woods.

The school has several play areas where the children can enjoy:

Additional Programme Activities

Reading and Maths Skills

At this level the sounds of the alphabet are introduced and the Letterland scheme is used to reinforce this.

We introduce the concept of number in a variety of ways and this is followed up with the Compare Bears Maths scheme.

We also use a variety of First Science equipment.

Each child's progress is monitored both to identify and address difficulties in any area of learning and also to praise the child's achievement.

Our happy caring environment helps every child to reach their fullest potential
