Playgroup
Our Playgroup Class is for children from 18 months old. Our classes are run with a staff ratio of 1 adult to 5 children.
For some children this will be their first time away from their mothers.
We focus on making this new experience of school life happy and welcoming.
We place emphasis on teaching social skills, learning to share with each other and helping children to discover that school is an exciting place where they can play and learn together.
Our Daily Routine:
Free Choice
Children are offered a free choice of activities where they can choose from a selection of table-top toys and puzzles, the home corner, dressing up corner, book corner, cars, trains and a wide range of large and small construction toys.
The Daily Activity
The daily activity takes place in small groups or on a one-to-one basis with the teacher. The activities may include:
- sand and water play
- fun in the gym
- painting and printing
- outdoor play
- cutting and gluing
- planting seeds and bulbs
- baking buns and biscuits
- manipulating play dough and plasticine
Snack Time
Snack time is approximately halfway through the morning. The children are encouraged to help tidy away before bathroom time, to get ready for eating. The school does not provide meals so a packed lunch must be brought from home.
Outdoor Play
Outdoor play is always popular, and usually takes place later in the morning, after snack-time.
The school has several adventure play areas where the children can enjoy:
- tricycles
- slides
- tractors
- climbing frames
- sand pits
- play houses
Circle Time
Circle time is an integral part of our daily routine. We read stories, sing songs and practice rhymes to round off the morning.
Not all activities are limited to the classroom. We also make good use of our playroom. Other frequent activities during the week are music, dance and movement as well as games in the gym.
