FAU - Parents Committee

The British International School puts on a number of community events throughout the school year. We welcome the community to join in our celebrations.

Bonfire Night
For the past 29 years the parents of the school have organised a bonfire and fireworks display annually at Vaulen beach. This is a great night to take all the family to. The Bonfire is lit first followed by a firework display organised by a professional firm. There are refreshments on sale and sparklers and light sticks too.

In planning the event the parents work in co-operation with the local Kommune, fire brigade, police and have first aid facilities in attendance to ensure both a safe and enjoyable evening.

For those unfamiliar with this British tradition, Bonfire Night commemorates the downfall of the "Gunpowder Plot", an attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament, on the 5th of November, 1605. Predominantly a British celebration, it has now become an anticipated tradition in Stavanger's calendar.

The event is held on the Saturday nearest to the 5th of November each year. There is an admission charge on the night.

Some other events that FAU hold yearly are:
• Annual Thrift/Car Boot Sale (usually held each summer)
• Welcome Coffee mornings (throughout each term)
• May 17th National Day celebration
• Family Walks/Ceilidh
• Book Fair
